Dimitri eventually makes his way down to the street, where Marie is getting into her car. At that moment, Dimitri gets a crazy idea, jumps into the drivers seat, and speeds away. Marie doesn't know exactly what to do, and Dimitri says that he won't stop until she has seen Anya. He speeds to the house they are staying at, and walks around to Marie. He pulls out the Music Box and tries once more to get Marie to see Anya.

There is a knock on Anya's door, but she tells Dimitri to go away. Marie walks in and asks Anya who she is, but Anya can only say that she hoped Marie would know. Marie says Anya's a good actress, but she's had enough. When she is about to leave, Anya smells peppermint. Marie says that it is an oil for her hands, and Anya remembers how she spilled a bottle and would smell the peppermint when Marie went away to Paris... Marie then notices the key Anya has and pulls out the music box, which Anya recognises it right away. She winds it, and together they sing Anya's lullaby. Anya really IS Anastasia!
Dimitri, on the street below, looks up at the window, blows a kiss, and walks slowly away.

The next day, Dimitri enters Marie's study, and she presents him with the ten million rubles. Dimitri accepts her thanks, but declines the money. Marie wonders about this, and asks if he really was the boy who saved them from the palace. Dimitri replies that he had a change of heart and quickly leaves. While going down the stairs, he runs into Anastasia, who has been turned into a real Grand Duchess. A servant below tells him that he must address her propperly, which he does. Anya is still a bit mad at him, so Dimitri bows again and leaves, with Anya watching after him.

Before Dimitri leaves, he stops by to see Vlad and Pooka. Vlad tells him that he's making a mistake, but Dimitri knows he can't stay. He pats Pooka, and tells them that this is the one thing he's doing right.
