Anya has spent 10 years on her life living in an orphanage after she was found wandering around when she was eight. Now she is ready to go out and try to find Home, Love, and Family in Paris, with the help of a few new friends, by taking a Journey to the Past.

Dimitri is a con man from St. Petersburg who is trying to get a reward by finding an Anastasia look-alike. But when he meets Anya, he begins to realize money isn't everything, helps her to become who she really is, and begins to fall in love with her.

Rasputin put a curse on the Romonov family that they would die, and he tries everything he can, even while falling appart, to accomplish that. He meets his match with Anya and her friends, though.

Bartok, Rasputin's tiny albino bat sidekick, is always coming up with quick, hillarious remarks. He sticks with Rasputin until the end, when he realized that he will stop at nothing to complete his curse.

The Dowanger Empress Marie is the only remaining Romonov. She has been searching for her granddaughter, Anastasia, after she heard rumors that she may still be alive.

Sophie is Marie's first cousin, and object of Vlad's attraction. When Anya, Dimitri, Vladimir, and Pooka arrive, she shows them all of what Paris has to offer.
